Weekly Winners Snow is Falling

Discover Chris de Burgh!

Click on the button of the radio above to hear the song " Snow is falling" by Chris de Burgh.
The lyrics are from this song written by him, and I picked some pictures from our photo walk from last week to go with it. BUT I think you really need to hear the music as well.
The warmth of Chris's voice and the music completes this, without it this post might look very cold, and that's not what I wanted.

Snow is falling, snow is falling on the ground,
In the forest, in the forest there's no sound;
A shallow grave is where we lie,

The boys and men who died,
And snow is falling on the ground,
And we are calling to be found;

And the seasons, and the seasons come and go,
In the springtime, birds will sing and flowers grow,
At summer's end, the autumn breeze,

Will whisper through the trees,
And leaves are falling on the ground,
And we are calling to be found;

And in our homes, so many tears,
They don't know where we have gone,
And snow is falling on the ground,

And we are calling to be found,
We are calling to be found......

Photo Hunt " Wide"

This week's theme is "wide"

The water is wide

And I cannot get o'er;

Nor yet have I

The wings to fly;

Bring me a boat

That can carry two

And both shall row -

My love and I.

Down in the meadow

The other day,

Gathering flowers

Both bright and gay,

Gathering flowers,

Both red and blue,

I little thought

What love can do.

I leaned my back

Against an oak,

Thinking it was

A trusty tree,

But first it bent

And then it broke,

Just like my own

False loving be.

Oh love is gentle

And love is kind,

Bright as a jewel

When first it's new,

But love grows old

And waxes cold

And fades away

Like the morning dew.

There is a ship

And it sails the sea;

It's loaded deep

As deep can be,

But not so deep

As this love I'm in.

I know not if

I sink or swim.

The water is wide

And I cannot get o'er,

Nor yet have I

The wings to fly;

Bring me a boat

That can carry two

And both shall row -

My love and I.

These broken wings can take me no further,
I’m lost, and out at sea,
I thought these wings would hold me forever,
And on to eternity,
And far away I can hear your voice,
I can hear it in the silence of the morning,
But these broken wings have let me down,
They can’t even carry me home.

In broken dreams that keep me from sleeping,
I remember all the things I said,
Well I’ve broken all the promises,
I said I would be keeping,
They’re gone, like leaves they fell,
For it’s so hard when you’re far away,
All I needed was a shoulder I could cry on,
Now these broken dreams have woken me,
My love, will you carry me home.

Or will you treat me like some traveller,
On a dark and lonely road,
Who sees a light and a woman who will give him love,
Oh and just when she reaches the part,
When she’s supposed to comfort his broken heart,
She turns away, and sends him travelling on, on,

Oh when I left I believed that nothing would go wrong,
I thought the whole world would be waiting for my story,
Take me back, my love, I need you now,
Come back and carry me home,
Take me back and heal these broken wings,
Come back and carry me home.

Music and Lyrics by Chris de Burgh.
Pictures taken at the Planckendael Zoo, last Sunday.
The storks you see here all got injured and have broken their wings.
In the wild, they would not have a chance,
they would almost certainly die.
These are the lucky ones,
they have been saved, and can now spend the rest of their lives at the zoo.

Postcard from La Provence, Gig Street

On Sundays, there is the weekly market in l' Isle-Sur-la-Sorgue.
That's when we stop and listen to these guys.
They are called Gig Street.
We have known them for years now, we bought all of their CD's.
Thanks to You Tube they are already getting
more and more famous each year.
I just hope they'll keep playing like they have done for years,
on the corner of the street on market days ...
From the first moment we've met them,
(almost ten years ago now) I have always loved their music.
Enjoy! I bet you can't sit still either!

On our way to France on Friday the Thirteenth!

Leaving on holliday on Friday the thirteenth huh?
I'm not superstitious, but as I am preparing this post
( this one was written May 15th)
I do hope nothing bad will happen to us on our way up!

We'll drive all night, and we're due to arrive about twelve hours later.
We have some French CD's of Claude François
( and others) in the car with us, and that music really gets us
into the mood for our French adventure.

Come along with us if you don't mind me singing out of tune?
I have one of his greatest hits in France on my radio here.
I guess it's better known in the US and throughout
the rest of the world as "Stop in the Name of Love by the Supremes.

I'll be posting a little something here every day
to give you some idea of what our holliday in the Provence is all about.
I promise it will be a little bit like being there with us!
Want to come?
Please don't be shy to leave me a comment?
It will be so great to read them when I get back ...

Fridge Friday ... I did it my way...

free music

Dear Fridge Friday people

(and other nosy befriended bloggers and lurkers out there)

After spending the whole night browsing through
You Tube's fridge related video's I have had it!
No really, I mean it.
I have seen it all!
You name it, I've seen it!
Kids, cats and even grown ups hiding in them!
I've seen other people sharing what's in their fridge.
I can see that every week if I want to.
But on video? Really!!
Anyway...

I even saw what happened to Lucy when she got stuck in the freezer.
And then I saw what happened to the hamburger and the fries
from Mc Donalds after more than ten weeks in a glass jar!
You would not want to know, would you?
All right, if you insist go watch that video,

but I'm not putting it on my blog!
Ewww, you know, seeing that made me think ...
It's not the mold that is the most disgusting,
but when even after ten weeks it still has none,
that's when you should worry!

Anyway, what I'm trying to say here
is that this will be our last Fridge Friday.
In case you're a new reader here, they are all here.
You'll understand better if you read them all!
I can't possibly do any better than I did last week.
Just in case you've missed that one, it's here.
It was hilarious, I know.
But that's the whole tragedy of it I think.
One should always know when to stop,
and it's better to do that on a high!
So as from next week I'll have to figure out something else.
It was fun while it lasted ...

**Grammy and I waving goodbye**
Bye!

Fridge Friday .... The Full Monty!

Okay, I promised you all the Full Monty.
But before we move on to that Monty stuff,
let's do a little bit of explaining, shall we?
I found the following explanation on the origin of that expression:

"It drives Brits nuts when people think ‘The Full Monty’ means stripping, because to a Brit it was a term used for decades and decades before as a catch phrase meaning to ‘go all the way;’ coined by General Montgomery’s cook as the military man always insisted on a full English breakfast before battle."

Breakfast ... fridge ... Okay, makes sense to me ...
Let's go ...

What?
Still not satisfied?
What did you say? It's not what you were looking for?
Well, at least it had a fridge?
Oh you want the REAL STUFF?
Okay, okay, here we go then ...
There ...

Still not right?
OK, let's try this then shall we?
(Click on the radio button to get the complete experience!
I have picked a different version of that same song)

I promised?

No milk today ...

Today is the official "no blog today" one day off of blog 365.
I even received an e mail telling me not to blog!
But I decided to go against the rules and blog anyway!
Being told NOT to do something awakens the rebel in me ...
So there, ... my protest song!

I have changed the lyrics a little bit to make it mine ...

( Does it show that I'm a child of the sixties?
I mean, rebelling, protest songs, climbing fences?)
Oh and that music of course, that's a give away!!!

Artist : Hermits Herman's
Title : No Milk Today
-----------------
No post today, my words have gone away
The blogger's left alone, an e mail sent at dawn

No post today, it's not a common sight

But bloggers passing by don't know the reason why

How could they know just what this message means
The end of your hopes, the end of all my dreams
How could they know the stories there had been
Behind the door where my fridge reigned as queen
No post today, it wasn't always so
The company was gay, we'd turn night into day

But all that's left is a place mute and lonely
A lonely blog in a mean street back of town
Becomes a shrine when I think of you only
Just two down ... ten left!

No pictures today, it wasn't always so
The company was gay, we'd turn night into day

as 365 reigned the faster did we write

We signed in all at once, the start of our romance

How could they know just what this message means
The end of your hopes, the end of all your dreams
How could you know the stories there had been
About the fridge where my love hides the food

No blogging today, my words have gone away
The fridge stands all alone
, an e mail sent at dawn

But all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A lonely blog in a mean street back of town
Becomes a shrine when I think of you only
Just two down ... ten left!

No feeds today, my reader has gone empty
The blogroll stands for love, a symbol of good friends

No posts today, it's not a common sight

But people passing by don't know the reason why

How could they know just what this message means
The end of my hopes, the end of all my dreams

How could they know the stories there had been

Behind the door where my fridge reigned as queen

No entry today, it wasn't always so
The company was gay, we'd turn night into day

But all that's left is a place mute and lonely
A lonely blog in a mean street back of town
Oh all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A lonely in a mean street back of town
Oh all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A lonely blog in a mean street back of town

Fun Monday ... Favourite music

This is the new assignment , hosted by ooh a shiny pen...
Make sure you visit others there as well ...

Music plays a vital role in most of our lives. It is everywhere. I want to hear the ONE song that is you. The song that whenever it is heard, you smile. I am not looking for the soundtrack of your life, just that one song. Your friends hear it and think of you. You can post the video, the lyrics, the wav file. However you want to post it is great.

This is my favourite band.
Their name is Gig Street, and they play out on the streets in the south of France.
We have met them about ten years ago,
ever since we started taking our vacation in the Provence,
and ever since they started playing together.
They play their swinging jazzy music on the streets of Saint-Rémy,
l'Isle sur la Sorgue, Nyons ... Uzès .
This video is made in l'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, on a Sunday "le jour du marché."
The weekly market is held just around the corner from where they play,
and a lot of people stop by to enjoy their music.
This is happy music ...
It says holliday ...
Provence
and
"joie de vivre" ...

I took this picture while we were on holliday in l'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, in June 2007.
I found the video on You Tube.
Some other great fan of theirs has been uploading a lot of video's he has recently made.
I saw this guy filming them, and I thought to myself, "please put it on You Tube!"
He must have been reading my mind!
Well, anyway, it's not about just one song ... I love all of their music!

I did a Google search and I just found their brandnew website.
If you want to visit their website and hear their latest CD, just click here ...

I've got all of their music here at home, exept for that last one.
We're going to buy it when we meet again, in June ...
Can't wait ...

Where did our love go?

Alida suggested that I should write a love letter to my muze ...
Click on the radio to hear the music.
Maybe ... if she hears this,
she might decide to come back to me?

Baby, baby, baby, don't leave me
Oh, please don't leave me all by myself
I've got this burning, burning, yearning feeling inside me
Ooh, deep inside me and it hurts so bad
You came into my heart (baby, baby) so tenderly
With a burning love (baby, baby) that stings like a bee
(baby, baby)

Now that I surrender (baby, baby) so helplessly
You now wanna leave (baby, baby) ooh, you wanna leave me
(baby, baby)
Ooh, baby, baby, where did our love go?
Oh, don't you want me (baby, baby) don't you want me no more?
(Baby, baby) Ooh, baby
Baby, baby, where did our love go?
And all your promises (baby, baby) of a love forever more
(baby, baby)

I've got this burning, burning, yearning feeling inside me
Ooh, deep inside me (baby, baby) and it hurts so bad
(baby, baby)
Before you won my heart (baby, baby) you were a perfect guy
But now that you got me (baby, baby) you wanna leave me behind
(baby, baby)
Ooh, baby, baby, baby, ... baby don't leave me
Oh, please don't leave me (baby, baby) all by myself
(baby, baby)
Ooh (baby, baby)

Special thanks to Diana Ross and the Supremes.

Goodbye Ruby Tuesday ...

Thanks to the Rolling Stones for the lyrics and the wonderful music.
Click on the button of the radio and enjoy...

She would never say where she came from
Yesterday don't matter if it's gone
While the sun is bright
Or in the darkest night
No one knows
She comes and goes

Goodbye, ruby tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still I'm gonna miss you...

Don't question why she needs to be so free
She'll tell you it's the only way to be
She just can't be chained
To a life where nothing's gained
And nothing's lost
At such a cost

There's no time to lose, I heard her say
Catch your dreams before they slip away
Dying all the time
Lose your dreams
And you will lose your mind
Ain't life unkind?

Goodbye, ruby tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When you change with every new day
Still I'm gonna miss you...

The pictures are all taken this summer when we were on holliday in the Provence,
in the South of France. Cats in the Provence are extremely photogenic ...
The first cat is Chatoûn, which means little cat.
One day, about three years ago, she arrived at the house
and decided that she wanted to live there.
She more or less adopted herself, and they never knew where she came from ...

The one by the blue window did not feel like posing at all.
The one on top of the stairs lives in Goult.
She picked the finest restaurant of the village, and decided to live there.
French cats like to have their own ways.
I think I want to be a (French?) cat in my next life!
